Travel to Denver

For lovers of the great outdoors and purple mountain majesty, as well as cultural pursuits, delicious and independent restaurants, and a vibrant shopping and craft beer scene, a vacation to Denver is a sure winner as are Denver flight deals. And, during the winter season, the surrounding mountains offer some of the best snow skiing in the United States while the city is often snow-free.

Things to Do in Denver

Biking

With more than 85 miles of trails, you can get just about anywhere in the city via bike. Two favorite trails are the Cherry Creek Bike Path, a 40-mile paved trail that starts where Denver was founded, and the Greenway Trail, running 30 miles and with historical markers along the way. If you don’t have a bike, the city has a bike-sharing program with more than 80 stations and 700 bikes available for rent.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater

Some say this is the most acoustically superb natural amphitheater in the world; others swear by its stunning beauty. Either way, attending a performance here is unforgettable.

Shopping

Cherry Creek North, just 10 minutes from downtown, has high-end boutiques and the upscale Cherry Creek Mall. Lower Downtown (LoDo) has specialty boutiques and is also home to Rockmount Ranch Wear, a legend in Western wear and worn by the likes of Eric Clapton and Robert Redford.

Dining

Restaurant Row in the Uptown neighborhood is a sure bet for great food. In Lower Downtown (LoDo) check out the restaurants in the Larimar Square area and at Union Station. Outstanding Mexican and South American cuisine can be found in the Highlands neighborhood.

Nightlife

Beer is the name of the game in Denver with more than 50 breweries and brewpubs, many of which, including Denver’s first, being located in LoDo (Lower Downtown). LoDo has some good nightclubs, as well. For Country Western music lovers, they’ll want to visit the award-winning Grizzly Rose with live music and dancing most nights of the week. Jazz and blues aficionados can’t go wrong at El Chapultepec, which has been offering blues and jazz seven nights a week since 1933. Or if you just want to hang at what was once Neal Cassady’s and Jack Kerouac’s favorite bar, join the crowd at Charlie Brown’s.

Rocky Mountain National Park

The 415-square-mile national park, with its spectacular mountain scenery, more than 300 miles of hiking trails, and the stunning Trail Ridge Road is just two hours from Denver.

Snow skiing

Come winter, Denver is the gateway to some of the best downhill skiing in the United States. Four ski areas — Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Winter Park — are all within a two-hour drive (or a two-hour train ride to Winter Park). Vail is 2.5 hours away and Aspen and Snowmass to the southwest and Steamboat Springs to the northwest are 3.5 hours away.

U.S. Mint

Learn how this branch of the U.S. Mint makes 50 million coins a day! Tours are free, but reservations are required.

Professional Sports

Denver has — count ‘em — seven professional sports teams, including baseball, which is played at the beautiful Coors Field, located downtown and with views of the mountains.

Larimar Square

The city’s oldest block still features landmark 19th-century buildings.

Museums

Rarely do “Denverites” stay inside, but when they do, it’s probably to visit the stellar Denver Art Museum with its outstanding collection of Native American art and exceptional architecture and design galleries. Better yet, admission is free.
