Things to Do in Minneapolis/St. Paul
Parks & Gardens
Boasting one of the best park systems in the nation, Minneapolis alone is home to more than 180 parks; Minnehaha Falls and the Lyndale Park Rose Garden are always great options. Not to be overshadowed by its sister, St. Paul boasts more miles of Mississippi shoreline than any other city, making it easy to experience natural beauty right in the heart of downtown.
Craft Beer
Both cities boast a thriving craft beer scene--between Minneapolis and St. Paul, there are more than 20 to choose from. Some of our favorites include Surly Brewing Company and Lift Bridge Brewing Company – both of which you can sample on our flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul!
Outdoor Recreation
Whether you prefer a canoe paddle, 7-iron, or ski poles in your hand, the best way to experience the Twin Cities is out of doors. While it’s true that winters can be snowy, the best part about having 4 distinct seasons is the wide range of outdoor activities available to Minnesotans. Visitors can choose from golf, boating, sledding, or cross-country skiing just to name a few.
Music Scene
The Minneapolis/St. Paul music scene is nothing short of vibrant. From quaint coffee shops and cafes to larger, well-established concert halls and clubs (like the infamous First Avenue where the artist Prince filmed Purple Rain), music fans can discover new local talent or national touring acts from a variety of genres including indie rock, hip-hop, hard rock, and jazz.
Biking
Minneapolis/St. Paul is known as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the U.S. Cyclists can choose from friendly urban thoroughfares, or more scenic routes along the Mississippi. Both the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway and Midtown Greenway trails are local favorites.
Sports
Minnesota is one of the few states home to a professional team in every major sport. The Minnesota Twins, St. Paul Saints, and Minnesota Lynx seasons take place in the summer, while the Minnesota Vikings dominate the autumn sports schedule. The Timberwolves and Wild kick off their calendars in winter, and the Minnesota United FC play in the spring. No matter what time of year you visit, there’s always a chance to get in on the action.
Performing Arts
Minneapolis/St. Paul is one of the premier performing arts centers between the East and West Coasts. The Guthrie Theater, Ordway Center for Performing Arts, and Orpheum Theater are among some of the big names, but there are more than 440 theaters throughout the state. Whether you’re a fan of musicals, Shakespeare, or more avant-garde performances, the live offerings in the Twin Cities are hard to beat.
Nightlife
Minneapolis is where you want to be for the most happening nightlife with its abundance of nightclubs, fashionable bars, and music venues. The hippest neighborhoods include Uptown, Northeast, and the Warehouse District. St. Paul usually goes to bed a little earlier, but does offer a great collection of bars for those looking for a more low-key late night.
North Shore
If you have a little more time to spend in the North Star State, it’s definitely worth the trip to head “Up North.” Only a 3-hour drive from the Twin Cities, the city of Duluth, Lake Superior’s North Shore, and Superior National Forest are all prime examples of the breathtaking beauty the northern regions of the state have to offer.
Shopping
Shopping comes second nature in the home state of the largest indoor mall in the U.S., several outlet malls, and a plethora of charming local boutiques. Some of the top spots to shop ’til you drop include Mall of America, Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, and Grand Avenue in St. Paul. The best part? No sales tax on shoes or clothing!
Dining
Foodies take note – the Twin Cities are the place to be! With a variety of international culinary traditions, world-class chefs with their very own James Beard Awards, and locally sourced farm-to-table ingredients, it’s no wonder the food scene in Minneapolis/St. Paul is booming. Trying to narrow down choices can be tricky, so for those under time constraints, hit up the North Loop or Eat Street in Minneapolis for the food neighborhood with the most options in close proximity. In St. Paul, head to Lowertown.
