Negril
Negril is for beach lovers with its world-famous Negril Beach boasting seven miles of beautiful white sand, shaded with palm trees, sprinkled with bars and restaurants, lined with hotels and resorts, and bordered by the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean. To the north is another beautiful beach and to the south are the famous Negril cliffs with cliff divers and perfect sunsets. Negril is great for:
- Couples— Most of the resorts are smaller and several are for couples only, making for the ultra-romantic vacation. And the beaches are perfect for hand-in-hand strolling.
- Singles— Although Negril is supremely laid back, there is fun nightlife in the bars along Negril Beach; south along the cliffs at various bars, including Rick’s cafe; and likely within the resort where you are staying.
Ocho Rios

Things to Do in Jamaica
Dunn’s River Falls
This river — carelessly cascading over smooth, short inclines — is relatively easy to climb, refreshingly fun, and a must-do on everyone’s first visit to Jamaica. A guide leads you up the falls, helping where needed, and taking your picture when desired. What to bring? A sense of water-soaked fun and a pair of water socks/shoes. Ocho Rios.
Hip Strip
Lined with bars, clubs, and restaurants, the Hip Strip is the place to go for rockin’ music, flowin’ drinks, and smilin’ good times. Montego Bay.
Dining
The majority of hotels and resorts in Jamaica are all-inclusive, which means you never have to leave your resort to find a great meal. If you are staying at a hotel where your meals aren’t included, or if you just want to get out, there are many dining choices in all three areas, mainly in the concentrated city centers. And be sure — either at your hotel or at a local restaurant — to try Jamaica’s beloved Jerk chicken, along with a Red Stripe.
Nightlife
Much of Jamaica’s nightlife is located within the hotels, but there is also a lot of action along Montego Bay’s Hip Strip and in Negril at either Margaritaville or Rick's cafe, and in Ocho Rios.
Sunset
Watching the sun set is a nightly ritual in Negril; waiting for and watching closely to see the “green flash” and toasting with a Red Stripe… or two. At Rick’s cafe in Negril, it’s always a party, even if it’s cloudy. Negril.
Shopping
The majority of shopping in Jamaica is for local handicrafts, including woodcarving and weaving, which are sold at markets and small shops in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, and along the beach in Negril. For Jamaican coffee and rum, it is best purchased at the airport prior to departing for home.
