Travel to Punta Cana

The reasons to vacation in Punta Cana are many… never-ending white-sand beaches dotted with palm trees, no hotel or resort taller than the palms, shallow and warm aquamarine waters perfect for watersports, and pampering all-inclusive resorts where every vacation desire is taken care of.

Things to Do in Punta Cana

Beach

Bavaro Beach, the main beach that sweeps north and west along the coast for nearly 40 miles, is one of the best beaches in the world. Swaying palms and a wide swath of endless white sand just doesn’t get any better or more picturesque.

Golf

With more than 10 courses in the area, Punta Cana has become the best place for golfing in the Caribbean. Many resorts offer golf packages or complimentary greens fees with their all-inclusive plan so, if golf is your game, you’re sure to win.

Watersports

The waters off Bavaro Beach are shallow, perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving. The island’s longest coral reef is just offshore. Dolphin Discovery, which opened in 2015, offers dolphin encounters and the opportunity to swim with dolphins. Please note that during Holy Week (the week between Palm Sunday and Easter) the use of motorized watersports is not allowed.

Shopping

The majority of shopping opportunities will be found at boutiques within your resort or at vendor nights when local artisans come and display their wares. There are also several shopping malls near some of the larger resort areas, including Palma Real Shopping Mall, located within walking distance from the Melia Caribe Tropical, and San Juan Shopping Center, located in what is being referred to “downtown Punta Cana”, on the road between the airport and Bavaro Beach resorts. Local items that are good deals are Dominican rum, coffee, and cigars, and locally sourced amber and larimar — a beautiful semi-precious stone that is light blue and white like the Caribbean Sea, and only found in the Dominican Republic.

Dining

As the majority of resorts are all-inclusive, dining most often takes place within the resort. The resorts do an outstanding job of offering a variety of cuisines and some resorts have enough restaurants so you can dine at a different restaurant each night. For dining outside of the resort, there are several restaurants along Bavaro Beach.

Nightlife

Punta Cana resorts offer great nightlife, ranging from live cultural performances, piano and jazz bars, and DJs spinning the newest hits and greatest dance music. Casino gaming is also available in Punta Cana and many resorts have full casinos with table games and slot machines. In addition, many resorts permit outside visitors to their nightclubs and casinos. The newest nightclub is Coco Bongo, located in downtown Punta Cana and offering high-voltage entertainment and spectacular live shows.
