Travel to Mazatlan
Mazatlán offers the best of a vacation to Mexico — a great beach that stretches for miles; a thriving Malecon/boardwalk lined with restaurants and bars; a charming and historical downtown area; beautiful sunsets overlooking the ocean and offshore islands; and great resorts at more affordable prices than other Mexico vacation areas. When looking for a Mexico vacation spot, a Mazatlán vacation is one of the best.
Things to Do in Mazatlán
Mazatlán Aquarium
The Gran Acuario Mazatlán is the largest in Mexico, and a landmark aquarium in Latin America dedicated to the Sea of Cortez. Focused on education, research, and knowledge dissemination, it is a benchmark for aquariums across the world. Strategically located in Mazatlán Central Park, Gran Acuario Mazatlán is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Historical Walking Tour
The 20-block area of downtown Mazatlán has been beautifully restored, as well as the Teatro Angela Peralta, an exquisite theater built in 1860. Walk along the tree-lined streets, enjoy looking at the historic and Colonial-style buildings, and then stop at a charming sidewalk café to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Ziplining
The newest Zipline in Mazatlán, called "Farolesa", is an adrenaline-packed ride reaching up to 44 miles per hour and descending down 500 feet of elevation. The ride begins from Cerro del Crestón (home of the highest natural lighthouse in the world) and ends at the historic Touristic Park 1873 Observatory. The most impressive of all is that the journey runs all the way along the beautiful Pacific Ocean, giving participants unique views of the panoramic landscape.
Watersports
The Pacific waters out of Mazatlán are some of the best for catching marlin and sailfish; chartering a boat can be less expensive here, too. For those who love to be in the water, snorkeling is good out around Bird, Deer, and Wolf Islands, three islands that were declared an ecological reserve in 1991.
Shopping
For souvenirs, a huge assortment of clothing, sterling silver, leather goods, pottery, and other Mexican items can be found in the open-air mercados, boutiques, and shops on the streets around the hotels. For high-quality art, the historic center has numerous galleries and artist studios. If visiting over the first Friday of the month, November – May, be sure to partake in Mazatlán Artwalk where you’ll find fantastic art, refreshments, fun, and music within a 10-block area.
Nightlife
Sports bars, charming cantinas, nightclubs, discos, and wine bars. Most are located along or around the Malecon and Golden Zone, but some are in the historic center, or in the Marina area.
Dining
Mazatlán offers a rich and diverse dining scene, with an emphasis on seafood, namely shrimp, as Mazatlán is home to Mexico’s largest shrimp fleet. You’ll also find great grilled steaks, outstanding Mexican cuisine, and American favorites, including pizza, burgers, and fast food.
